How to clip a YouTube Short precisely
To clip a YouTube Short, open Shorts mode, paste its URL and set your start and end time. Download that section, or choose the full-Short action when you need the complete source. The preview stays vertical.
Start with the Short you are allowed to use
Copy the Short's YouTube URL and make sure you have the rights or permission needed for your intended use. Clipyt supports standard Shorts URLs, but it cannot make private, removed, age-restricted, region-blocked, or members-only media available. It does not bypass YouTube access controls. A source can also be publicly viewable yet lack a media format that supports the requested extraction.
Switch to Shorts mode and load the URL. The preview uses YouTube's embedded player in a vertical frame, which makes it easier to judge action near the top and bottom of a 9:16 composition. Previewing is separate from exporting: Clipyt begins fetching media only after you request a selected clip or use the full-Short action.
Select the moment, not an automatic highlight
Play or scrub to the first useful frame and set the start. Then move to the end of the moment and set the end. Refine the timestamps if a spoken word, cut, or movement needs a cleaner boundary. Clipyt validates that the end follows the start and measures that selected duration against your plan. It does not use AI to find a hook, score highlights, remove silence, or generate alternate cuts.
Leave enough context for the result to make sense on its own. A fraction of a second before speech can prevent a clipped opening, and a short tail can keep the ending from feeling abrupt. Media segments and keyframes may require the extraction tools to read a small amount around your range. That supporting data is different from intentionally saving the complete Short before every cut.
Decide between a selected clip and the full Short
Use the selected-range download when you need one scene, statement, or action. Use the full-Short download only when you need the entire source and are permitted to save it. Clipyt exposes full-source download only in Shorts mode; the ordinary long-video workflow is range based. The full action is a user choice, not a hidden fallback for a failed partial job.
For a selected clip, guest and Google-account plans allow at most 120 seconds and 720p. Guests get 3 clips per UTC day, while a verified Google account gets 10. Pro is $6 per month, removes the daily count, enables best-available quality, and uses a standard 1,800-second maximum selected range. A deployment can configure that Pro duration, and available source quality remains the upper bound.
Set the output and finish the export
Choose whether the exported video keeps its sound, then select MP4 or MOV. Muting removes sound from the video; it does not create an audio-only asset. MP4 is usually the simplest playback choice, while MOV is available when your next application expects it. Clipyt preserves the source framing. It does not resize a Short into landscape or square versions, burn in subtitles, add branding, or publish to a social account.
Start the job and wait for the download to become ready. Processing uses temporary local storage. With Cloudflare R2 configured, completed outputs are stored in a private bucket and delivered through a time-limited signed URL. If a selected extraction fails under the standard safe configuration, Clipyt reports the failure instead of silently downloading the full Short. Try another quality or boundary; use the explicit full-Short action only when the complete file is genuinely what you want.
Review the file in its next context
Play the downloaded file from beginning to end before moving it into a larger project. Check that the opening is not clipped, the final action has enough room, the intended audio setting is present, and the vertical image still reads well outside YouTube's player. If another platform requires a different aspect ratio, captions, a smaller file, or a particular codec, make those versions in an editor. Clipyt intentionally leaves those publishing decisions to you.
Common questions
Can I download a complete YouTube Short?
Yes. Shorts mode includes an explicit full-Short action as well as the selected-range export. Use it only for content you are allowed to download.
Does Clipyt convert a Short to another aspect ratio?
No. The vertical preview helps you inspect a Short, but Clipyt does not automatically reframe or resize it to landscape, square, or other layouts.
Can Clipyt automatically find the best part of a Short?
No. You choose the start and end. Clipyt does not provide AI highlight selection, automatic subtitles, or direct publishing.
