Download part of a YouTube video by timestamp.
Use Clipyt to save a section of a YouTube video only when you own it or have permission to download and use it. Set a start and end time to create an MP4 or MOV up to 120 seconds long. A downloaded file is different from YouTube's native Clip link, which shares playback on YouTube.
Choose a share link or a local file
If you only want someone to watch a moment, YouTube's sharing tools may be enough. A native Clip link plays an excerpt from the original video and does not give you a standalone MP4. A timestamp link starts playback at a chosen time and does not define an end.
Use a file when you have permission and need to edit an excerpt in another app. Clipyt accepts original watch, youtu.be and Shorts URLs; it does not resolve youtube.com/clip links.
Compare YouTube Clip links and downloads, then choose a container with the MP4 vs MOV guide.
Save the section you need
The timestamp difference is the requested clip duration: 02:00 to 02:45 selects 45 seconds.
- Check your permission and paste the original video URL into Manual clip.
- Load the preview and set both timestamps. Keep the range within 120 seconds.
- Choose sound, format and an available quality. Export, download promptly and check the first and last seconds locally.
Use Clipyt's YouTube clipper to cut or trim the range described here.
What happens when partial extraction fails
Clipyt's normal path requests the selected range. Segmented delivery can require nearby media data to prepare an accurate boundary. This is not a promise that only the exact number of requested bytes is transferred.
Full-source fallback is disabled by default. In that standard configuration, Clipyt stops and shows an error if the selected source format cannot be extracted partially. A service configuration can enable a full-source fallback; it is not a user option or a way around restrictions. Try another available quality or boundary first.
The explicit full-Short button is a separate request for a complete Short and remains subject to the 120-second export cap. It is not a hidden fallback. Download links expire, and accepted manual jobs can consume daily allowance even if processing later fails.
Common questions
Can I save just 30 seconds?
Yes. Set an end time 30 seconds after the start. An accepted normal export uses 30 seconds of your daily allowance.
Is a Clip link an MP4 download?
No. YouTube's native Clip link shares playback from the original video. Use a permitted selected-range export when you need a file.
Does Clipyt secretly download the whole video?
Full-source fallback is disabled by default. The normal path retrieves the selected range and supporting nearby media data. If partial extraction fails in the standard configuration, it reports an error.
Can I download a restricted source?
Clipyt does not bypass access controls. Private, age-restricted, members-only, removed or region-blocked videos may not be available for extraction.
